Still No Timeline On FY14, FY15 School System Audits

Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey said that state auditors have again changed the timeline for releasing the school system’s Fiscal Year 2014 and 2015 audits.

According to Dorsey, the state has now told him that those two audits will likely be released to the school system at the same time, rather than separately.

He said that this change is the result of the state auditors’ process.

“On the FY 14 audit, I know there were some delays and some information they were looking at and that ’14 audit is in Atlanta for its final review,” said Dorsey. “However, we do not anticipate that they will do an exit with us until they have completed also the ’15 (audit). Right now, we are anticipatory of the ’14 and ’15 audits for an exit interview together.”

Dorsey said that he is not sure of what the timeline is now for the state to release these two audits.

“I do not really have a timeline that has been established at my current understanding, but I would certainly be hopeful that it would be in the next month or two,” said Dorsey.

State auditors have pushed the timeline back on the Fiscal Year 2014 audit multiple times.

Originally, the school board was told the Fiscal Year 2014 audit would be ready last August, then state auditors pushed it back until last November because of a backlog and then in December, auditors told the school system it would not be until this year that the Fiscal Year 2014 audit would be completed.

Dorsey said he does not expect any surprises in either of the two audits that the state is working on, noting that there will be findings in those two audits.

However, Dorsey said that most of the areas where there will be findings in the Fiscal Year 2014 and 2015 audits will have already been addressed and corrected.

Dorsey said the goal is for the school system to have a clean audit for Fiscal Year 2016.
