The Stephens County School System is moving forward with putting together a 2013-2014 school calendar.
At Tuesday’s Board of Education meeting, Stephens County School Superintendent Sherrie Whiten put forth a proposed calendar for the Board to review.
Whiten said staff has worked on a calendar for some time and presented it to a number of different groups in the school system to get input on it.
“One thing we did was meet with the Teacher Advisory Council,” said Whiten. “We also asked each of the principals to take this to their leadership team and get input about what folks wanted to see in the calendar. What we heard from most everybody was they liked the calendar we had this year. They liked the start date. They liked the holidays that we had.”
The 2013-2014 student calendar would again have 174 days, the same as it has in this current school year.
According to Whiten, the start and end dates on the proposed calendar are also close to what the school system went with this year.
Under the proposed student calendar for next year, school would start on August 22, 2013 and end on May 30, 2014.
Whiten said that the school system will put the proposed calendar out and get input from the public before bringing it back to the board for a final vote.
The Board of Education is expected to vote on the 2013-2014 calendar next month.
