Stephens Co. Unveils New Red Bluff Fire Station Building

Stephens County opens a third new fire station building this year.

Thursday, the county cut the ribbon on its new fire station building on Red Bluff Road, located just off of Oak Valley Road near the Currahee Club.

Back in May, the county unveiled new station buildings on North Holcomb Drive and Black Mountain Road.

The Red Bluff station building will serve the Big Smith Fire District.

Stephens County Volunteer Fire Coordinator Jamey Gettys said it will provide better service to that part of the county.

“It will allow us a quicker response time in most cases to places like the Currahee Club and things on this end of the county,” said Gettys.

Gettys went on to say that the new building will also help homeowners in that area with their insurance costs.

“It will cover the areas on this side to allow people to get their insurance ratings to reflect the Class 5 (ISO rating) if they are within the distance of the station and the hydrant, they will be able to get lower insurance premiums,” said Gettys.

Stephens County Commission Chair Dennis Bell said it is important for those homeowners who will have that opportunity because of the new fire station building to contact their insurance company in order to take advantage of that.

Stephens County used SPLOST VI money to build all three new station buildings.

Bell said finishing these was a goal for the county this year that he is glad to see accomplished.

“This is a day that I have been waiting on, the third and final one that we have been working on and I am just very excited for the citizens throughout the county,” said Bell. “This not only protects our citizens throughout the county, it also has a huge thing for economic development because when people come in, things they are going to look at are the school system, public safety, and the roadways.”

County officials also thanked the Currahee Club for donating the land on which the Red Bluff fire station building was constructed.
