Stephens Co. Toys for Tots Announces Process Change

The Toys for Tots program is announcing a change in procedure affecting Stephens County residents.

Area Toys for Tots Coordinator Don Alexander said the change has to do with signing up for assistance from the program.

“Instead of people being screened by the Salvation Army, we are having them call (our) number and we will take their request directly,” said Alexander.

The number for information on Toys for Tots in Stephens County is 864-614-2853.

Alexander said those who were not approved last year for Toys for Tots will need to show proof of residency and possibly proof of guardianship or custody.

Alexander said that Toys for Tots has the names of those who received assistance from the organization last year, so those individuals just need to call and tell Toys for Tots they were on the agency’s list last year, speeding up the screening process for them.

Also, Alexander said those who have already called, been screened, and in some cases, picked up toys, do not have to do anything else.

“We gave out some toys this past Saturday,” said Alexander. “Some people have already been taken care of. That is part of the new system we are doing. When people are calling in, instead of waiting until the end of the Christmas season, we are having people come in and pick up their toys almost immediately.”
