Stephens County will move towards taking over a private drive and adding it to the county road system.
Tuesday, county commissioners unanimously voted to spend money on initial maintenance on the first 1,000 feet of Bowers Road, currently a private drive, while also instructing staff to begin the steps for accepting that first 1,000 feet of the road in to the county’s road system.
Stephens County Administrator Phyllis Ayers says that Public Works Director Tim Mitchem had a chance since last month to look at the road and what is needed to get it fixed.
Mitchem said it would take $4,000, Ayers said.
Last month, a group of residents from the road appeared before county commissioners, saying the road is in dire need of major repairs that they cannot complete.
Bowers Road is in the area of Whitworth Circle and South Yow Mill Road.
