Stephens Co. Third Graders Take Farm Tour

IMG_20150513_110546_280The third graders from the Stephens County School System make their annual visit to the farm.

On Wednesday, those third graders visited Mountain View Farms in Avalon for the annual farm tour.

George and Linda Dean own Mountain View Farms.

Linda Dean said it is fun every year to have the third graders out to learn about agriculture and more up close.

“We have animals for them to see, soil erosion, electricity safety, beekeeping, just a little bit of everything,” said Dean. “They have stations they go around to. It is a beautiful day for it today. We have over 300 students here today and probably over 100 adults, so we have a large crowd here today and we are pleased with it.”

Dean went on to say that events like the farm tour are important to a child’s education.

“It is very important they know about agriculture,” said Dean. “So many of them do not even though this is a rural area. We have enjoyed doing it all these years.”

The Stephens County Farm Bureau and Stephens County 4-H help to organize the event as well, along with getting help from others, including the FFA, and Hart EMC.
