Stephens Co. Third Graders Take Farm Tour

Third graders from the Stephens County School System make their annual visit to the farm.

On Wednesday, they visited Mountain View Farms in Avalon for the annual farm tour.

George and Linda Dean own Mountain View Farms and have hosted the tour every year for the past eight years or so.

George Dean said they have all different kinds of animals and other activities for the students who come out for the farm tour each year.

“We have horses, pigs, chickens, soil erosion, bees, and an electrical demonstration,” said Dean.

Dean is also President of the Stephens County Farm Bureau.

He said that the farm tour provides a chance to teach students about agriculture and how important it is to their community and their everyday lives.

“The importance of agriculture, as I know it, cannot be expressed enough because it is all about food,” said Dean. “We have got people hungry all over the world, even in the United States, and most of the kids do not even know where this food comes from.”

The Stephens County Farm Bureau and Stephens County 4-H help to organize the event as well, along with getting help from others, including the FFA, and Hart EMC.
