Funeral services will take place Thursday for Stephens County State Court Solicitor Dan T. Pressley, Sr.
Pressley passed away Monday morning at his residence at the age of 76.
He practiced law in Stephens County for some 40 years and was in his third term as the county’s State Court Solicitor.
Also, Pressley was President of the Stephens County Democratic Party.
Stephens County Clerk of Court Tim Quick worked alongside Pressley in a variety of ways for many years.
“Dan is going to be sorely missed,” said Quick. “He was a great servant to the citizens of StephensCounty. I have known him for 20 years through Probation and the Clerk of Court and he has done a fine job for Stephens County.”
Pressley had just been re-elected in 2012 to a new four-year term as State Court Solicitor.
That term started on January 1 of this year.
Stephens County Registrar Theresa Kelley says that Georgia Governor Nathan Deal will be responsible for appointing someone to fill the vacancy initially.
Quick said that in the meantime, State Court operations will continue as normal.
“State Court will not miss a beat,” said Quick. “We have been using some local attorneys to fill in for Mr. Pressley over the last couple of months. We intend to continue doing that until we can get something permanently in place through the Governor’s Office.”
The next session of Stephens County State Court is set for January 10.
Pressley is survived by his wife, two sons, a daughter, and numerous other family members.
Funeral services are set for Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Toccoa First Baptist Church.
