Stephens Co. Splits With North Oconee in Basketball

The Stephens County Indians and Lady Indians hosted North Oconee Tuesday night at the Currahee Arena in Toccoa and split the varsity games in Region 8-AAAA basketball action.

In the boys’ game, Stephens County led by 11 at the end of the first period, but North Oconee trimmed the lead to just 6 at halftime.

In the second half, the Indians turned up the intensity, out-scoring the Titans 51-26, and won in a blow-out, 84-53.

Malik Feaster led the defensive effort in the fourth period with four steals and scores as part of his 15 total points.

De’Undre Singleton led all scorers with 24 points. Ty Nails also contributed 14 points.

Stephens County improves to 17-6 overall and 5-4 in Region 8-AAAA, while North Oconee falls to 11-11 overall and 4-4 in the region.

In the girls’ game, the North Oconee Lady Titans, who are rated number two in the state in AAAA, easily won over the Lady Indians, 59-24.

Tykia Thompson led Stephens County with 15 points.

The Lady Indians drop to 4-20 overall and 3-6 in Region 8-AAAA. North Oconee improves to 19-3 overall and 7-1 in the region.

The Indians and Lady Indians will be back in action Friday night at home as they host Jefferson in the final game of the regular season.

The varsity girls’ game will tip-off at 7 p.m. with the boys’ game to follow.
