Stephens Co. Schools Getting Ready to Start This Week

Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey said preparations are going well for the start of school later this week in Stephens County.

Dorsey said that everything will be ready to go when the majority of students step through the door for the first time on Thursday to begin the 2016-2017 school year.

“Our staffs have been working very hard at getting ready,” said Dorsey. “They are getting things all polished up. They are getting those lesson plans and bulletin boards ready. I think our kids are going to have a fantastic start. Our Transportation Department has been working very diligently on getting the smoothest routes possible and we appreciate all the efforts from our maintenance and custodial departments in getting the physical parts ready. We should have a great school start this year.”

While the first day for almost all Stephens County students is Thursday, one group is going a day early.

Pre-K students at Big A Elementary will start on Wednesday, while Kindergarten students at Big A will start on Thursday.

Dorsey said this is something that the school system is trying in an effort to provide the best first day experience possible for students, parents, and staff at Big A.

“We had quite a large traffic flow out there last year,” said Dorsey.

Dorsey said if this works, the school system will stick with it in future years, but if not, the school system will sit back and re-evaluate it again for next year.
