The Stephens County School System is on the hunt for a new finance director.
At a called meeting Thursday, the Stephens County Board of Education accepted the resignation of Finance Director Justin Beecher effective October 9.
Stephens County School Superintendent Sherrie Whiten said the system wishes Beecher well in the future.
“We hate to see him go,” said Whiten. “In the short time he was here, he did an outstanding job and we wish luck in whatever he decides to do after this.”
The Board of Education hired Beecher as the finance director in March and he started in the position around April 1.
A Toccoa native, Beecher came to the school system after spending four years at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics in Marietta in a variety of positions. Prior to his time at Lockheed Martin, Beecher worked at IBM in Atlanta.
Whiten said in March that Beecher was chosen for the position out of a group of 20 applicants, 5 or 6 of whom were interviewed.
Now with Beecher moving on, Whiten said the school system will move forward and fill the post.
“We will advertise that position and get it filled in the next couple of weeks hopefully,” said Whiten.
Whiten did say the goal is to find the best person possible for the position.
