Stephens Co. Registrar Resigns

Stephens County Registrar Theresa Kelley has resigned.

She made that decision Thursday morning, according to county officials.

It was immediate.

County Administrator Phyllis Ayers said that she had not received an official resignation letter as of Thursday afternoon, but was expecting one to be forthcoming.

Ayers said that the county is moving forward to get Kelley’s responsibilities covered with a potential election coming up in November.

“The Probate Judge and I have worked together this morning to line up a meeting Monday with the Board of Registrars and we have identified three people within the government to attend the October training for elections for Deputy Registrars and we will post the job,” said Ayers on Thursday. “We have already looked to the county attorney to help us with the language of the part-time registrar and part-time probate clerk’s duties.”

Stephens County Probate Judge Glenda Ernest says the plan is to still hold Martin municipal qualifying at her Probate and Registrar’s Office downstairs in Room 108 of the Stephens County Government Building in downtown Toccoa.

Martin municipal qualifying is set to begin Monday.
