Stephens Co. Public Works Has Numerous Projects Underway

Stephens County Administrator Phyllis Ayers says that the Public Works Department continues to make progress on a number of different projects.

“The road department has done three major pipe replacements, Yonah Dam Road, Eastanollee Road, Camp Mikell Road,” said Ayers on Tuesday to commissioners. “The fire station grading on North Holcomb should be completed today (Tuesday). Another crew is on South Memorial Drive doing strip patching.”

Ayers said that work on the north side of Memorial Drive will more than likely be bid out and completed before school starts.

However, she said the county continues to do all the work in house that it is capable of.

Also, Ayers said the county has received a new motorgrader and backhoe.

She said the public works department is working diligently to make certain the paving season does not get by the county just because it is operating without a Public Works Director.

Meanwhile, Ayers said that not only is the North Holcomb fire substation grading work getting done, but plans are being finalized for the building in order to put it out to bid.
