Stephens Co. Public Works Director Resigns

Stephens County is working without a Public Works Director.

County Administrator Phyllis Ayers said that Tim Mitchem resigned from the post last week.

Ayers said she did not have any specifics regarding reasons for his resignation.

Mitchem had served as Stephens County’s Public Works Director since January 2012.

Ayers said that the road crew is doing an excellent job.

“I cannot say enough about the road crew out there,” said Ayers. “They have all stepped up to the plate to try to get us caught back up.”

Meanwhile, Ayers said that the road crew has also been focusing on the repairing the numerous potholes in areas throughout Stephens County.

“With their expertise and their input and this beautiful weather, we are focusing on the disastrous and dangerous potholes,” said Ayers. “Memorial Drive, Wolf Pit Road, Tower Road, Bruce Road, Clary Connector, East and West Silver Shoals.”

Ayers said that work is ongoing and headed to areas like Freeman Creek Road and Riverdale Road.

Ayers said that the county is also moving forward with preparations for road paving planned.

As for hiring a new Public Works Director, Ayers said that the job is being advertised and applications are being accepted.

However, she said there is no timeline for filling the position.
