Stephens Co. Names Assistant Administrator

Stephens County promotes a department head to a newly created position.

Tuesday, Stephens County Commissioners unanimously approved creating a position of Assistant Administrator and announced that the county’s Building and Grounds Director, Randall Cleveland, would take on the new position in addition to his current duties with Building and Grounds.

County Administrator Phyllis Ayers said that Cleveland has proven himself capable of the job time and time again by the way he has stepped up and helped with numerous county projects.

“The most recent one are the three fire stations,” said Ayers. “He realized I needed some help and it was really impossible for the volunteer firemen to put enough time, I mean they are all working also, so Randall spearheaded the entire project to get these three fire stations up. He has just been doing that over the years. He has been doing this job over the years.”

Ayers also pointed to Cleveland’s background in manufacturing as a positive.

“In those environments, you are used to making changes and getting them done quickly and Randall just has that mindset,” said Ayers. “He was just bred that way.”

Cleveland will continue to serve as the county’s Building and Grounds Director in addition to the Assistant Administrator’s responsibilities.

Ayers said that the job of Assistant Administrator will not entail supervising departments, but instead overseeing and completing specific projects as needed.

“I have already given him three projects, one is the inert landfill, one is a Hazardous Waste Trust Fund application we have not done in a while and he has two or three more coming right behind this.”

Cleveland has worked for Stephens County Government since 2007.
