Stephens Co. Jailer Arrested

March 31, 2014

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Friday a Stephens County jailer is in custody facing Aggravated Child Molestation and other charges.

A GBI press release identified the person arrested as 57-year-old Bobby Byargeon of Toccoa.

The GBI stated that the Toccoa Police Department requested the agency’s assistance on Thursday with an investigation of Byargeon after a victim came forward alleging Byargeon had been molesting them for over a year.

At that point, the GBI said Byargeon’s residence was searched for evidence relating to the allegations.

The GBI said it obtained ten arrest warrants for Byargeon as a result of that investigation.

According to the press release, Byargeon worked as a jailer in Stephens County for seven months.

The GBI said he is currently being held in the Rabun County Jail.

GBI officials called the investigation a cooperative effort with the Toccoa Police Department and the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office.
