Stephens Co. Hospital Welcomes First Baby of 2015

new year babyStephens County Hospital welcomes its New Year’s Baby for 2015.

The hospital announced on Monday that this year’s proud parents of the New Year’s Baby are Mercedes Jean Frye and Shamarcus Anderson, both of Hartwell.

Mom, Mercedes, said her baby is a healthy 6-pound, 2-ounce, 19 and 1/2″ long baby boy named Messiah Shamarie Anderson.

“He is a blessing,” said the lucky mom. “He is a great baby.”

This year’s New Year’s Baby was born at 2:08 a.m. on Saturday, January 3.

Mercedes said she is excited to be a mom.

“It feels great,” she said. “I cry every time I look at him.”

Monday, mom, dad, and baby were congratulated by hospital staff and members of the Hospital Auxiliary and were presented with a gift basket courtesy of the Stephens County Hospital Auxiliary.

Mercedes said she had a good experience at the hospital.

“Every question I had they answered,” she said. “They took great care of me and him. I am feeling good about it, but I am ready to go home.”

The maternal grandparents are Tammy and Kenneth Frye of Hartwell. The paternal grandparents are Sylisa Leverette of Hartwell and Billy Anderson of Hartwell.

The maternal great-grandparents are Cheryl and Harolde Frye of Spring Valley, Wisconsin and the paternal great-grandparents are Essie And Albert Anderson of Hartwell, Georgia..

The attending midwife was Shana DeLoach and the attending pediatrician was Dr. Elizabeth Pinkerton.

The mom’s nurse was Rebecca Chambers and the baby’s nurse was Nancy Khoury.
