Stephens Co. Hospital To Purchase Ventilator

Stephens County Hospital will move forward with the purchase of an adult ventilator to begin replacing older ones in use now.

On Monday, the Stephens County Hospital Authority unanimously voted to approve the purchase of the adult ventilator.

Hospital Administrator Ed Gambrell said that for right now, the hospital will only look to purchase one ventilator.

“This is used in our respiratory care department for very ill patients in our intensive care unit that need assistance breathing,” said Gambrell.

Gambrell went on to say that this unit will replace one that is about 15 years old and is no longer working.

“Fortunately, ventilators last a long time and we have several that are aging,” said Gambrell. “We are going to replace one of them now and then in the next year or two, we will probably replace another couple of them.”

According to Gambrell, the purchase of this ventilator will put Stephens County Hospital back up to six adult ventilators, which is how many the hospital is supposed to have on the adult side, in addition to pediatric ventilators.

Stephens County Hospital is purchasing the ventilator from a company called Maquet, which is out of New Jersey.

The ventilator will cost Stephens County Hospital $28,113.
