Stephens County Hospital names its Nurse Hero for 2013.
The hospital awarded the annual honor to Brenda Shook at a banquet held last week.
Shook is a registered nurse in the hospital’s emergency department.
Stephens County Hospital Director of Nursing Faye Taylor said that Shook’s peers selected her to win the Nurse Hero award.
“The hero award is based on nominations by other members of the nursing staff,” said Taylor. “The staff nominates the one who they think displays a positive image for nursing, is admired for their achievements, qualities, positive customer relations, and always demonstrates a caring attitude.”
Taylor went on to say that Shook meets all of the qualities one looks for in the Nurse Hero.
“Brenda is just excellent with patients,” said Shook. “She just has such good communication skills with patients. She absolutely has a caring attitude, always just goes over and beyond to make patients and their families feel comfortable when they are in her care. Brenda is also highly intelligent. She is just a great, great nurse who thinks ahead as to what is going to be needed for that patient. She performs wonderfully in critical situations and is an outstanding leader in the ER.”
According to Taylor, Shook emerged from a group of seven top nominees for the award. Taylor said all seven were outstanding candidates for the Nurse Hero award.
