Stephens Co. FY 17 Budget Process Gearing Up

The Stephens County Commission is preparing to dive into its Fiscal Year 2017 budget process.

Commissioners will start their part of the budget process next week with a budget planning session.

That budget planning session is scheduled to take place on Thursday, May 26 and Friday, May 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day at the Toccoa-Stephens County Airport.

Meanwhile, Stephens County Administrator Phyllis Ayers said that a copy of the proposed Fiscal Year 2017 county budget will be available for review by the public starting on June 6 in the office of the County Clerk during normal business hours.

The Clerk’s Office is open on Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

It is located in the historic Stephens County Courthouse on Tugalo Street in downtown Toccoa.

Two public hearings will also be held on the proposed Fiscal Year 2017 budget before Stephens County Commissioners take a vote on adoption.

Those public hearings will be on June 14 at 8:30 a.m. and June 28 at 5:30 p.m. Both public hearings will take place in the second-floor courtroom of the historic Stephens County Courthouse.

Stephens County’s Fiscal Year 2017 budget has to be approved by the end of June for the start of FY 2017, which is on July 1.
