Stephens County Commissioners are expected to hold the first budget hearing on the county’s proposed Fiscal Year 2014 budget at their regularly scheduled meeting this morning.
County commissioners are scheduled to meet at 8:30 a.m. today in the second-floor courtroom of the historic Stephens County Courthouse in downtown Toccoa.
The county commission has held two budget retreats over the last couple of months to work through the proposed Fiscal Year 2014 budget.
As part of the budget process, Stephens County Administrator Phyllis Ayers had proposed a number of budget cuts and then following the first budget retreat, Ayers asked department heads and constitutional officers to make additional cuts to their budgets.
At the last budget retreat last week, the county’s constitutional officers told county commissioners that they could not cut their budgets any more than they have already been cut.
County commissioners are scheduled to have a second budget hearing on June 25 prior to adopting the budget.
The county must adopt its budget on or before June 30.
Following the budget hearing, Stephens County Commissioners will hold their work session to discuss items on the business meeting agenda.
The business meeting to vote on agenda items will follow immediately after the conclusion of the work session.
Today’s Stephens County Commission budget hearing, work session, and regular meeting are all open to the public.
