Stephens County Commissioners will meet later today for a regularly scheduled meeting and work session.
The county commission meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. in the second-floor courtroom of the historic Stephens County Courthouse in downtown Toccoa.
County commissioners will begin with a work session on the agenda items.
Immediately after finishing the work session, the commission will move into its business meeting where it votes on agenda items.
During today’s meeting, Stephens County Commissioners are expected to consider a proposal from the Carl Vinson Institute to assist with the review of proposed zoning documents.
In June, Stephens County Administrator Phyllis Ayers had stated that the institute notified her it would not enter into a contract with StephensCounty to provide professional assistance on developing a land use plan. However, just days later, an official with the Carl Vinson Institute called that a misunderstanding and said the institute would be willing to help in any way it could once it knew specifically what the county wanted.
Other listed agenda items include consideration of a proposed lease agreement with the Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter and a presentation from Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney Brian Rickman on the new juvenile code.
The meeting agenda also allows time for public comment.
