Stephens Co. Commission Meeting Today

Stephens County Commissioners will consider a possible street abandonment at their meeting later today.

The county commission is set to meet at 5:30 p.m. today in the second-floor courtroom of the historic Stephens County Courthouse in downtown Toccoa.

On the agenda for today’s meeting is consideration of a motion to abandon part of Crump Street and remove it from the county road system.

Last month, John Vance appeared before commissioners to talk about possibly abandoning the end of Crump Street, which is located off of South Pond Street.

Vance owns the property at the end of the street, where there used to be houses and trailers, that he said did become an eyesore over time.

He said that he has been working to clean up the property, but people continue to dump things there, making it hard to keep up.

Also, he said he is concerned that the end of the street would become a place where other bad things could happen as well.

County commissioners will start their meeting at 5:30 p.m. with public hearings on proposed amendments to the alcohol and tower ordinances.

Following the public hearings, county commissioners will move into their work session to discuss items on the business meeting agenda.

Immediately after the end of the work session, the county commission will move into the business meeting to vote on agenda items as needed.

Today’s Stephens County Commission meeting is open to the public.
