Stephens Co. Commission Meeting Today

Stephens County Commissioners are slated to possibly again discuss convenience site recyclables at their meeting later today.

The Stephens County Commission is scheduled to meet at 8:30 a.m. today in the second-floor courtroom of the historic Stephens County Courthouse in downtown Toccoa.

Listed on today’s agenda is “Discussion of Convenience Site Recyclables.”

Last month, the Stephens County Commission unanimously passed a motion that county convenience sites would no longer separate out recyclable items from household garbage at the county’s convenience sites as of April 1.

Stephens County Administrator Phyllis Ayers said the motion passed last month meant there would no longer be an area for county residents to recycle at their convenience sites and any recyclable items will be put into the compactor with the household garbage.

The county commission is slated to begin at 8:30 a.m. today with a number of public hearings.

Following the public hearings, county commissioners will move into a work session to discuss the items on the business meeting agenda.

The business meeting, where county commissioners vote on agenda items, follows immediately after the end of the work session.

Today’s 8:30 a.m. Stephens County Commission meeting agenda also allows time for public comment.
