Stephens Co. Commission Meeting Today

The proposed Stephens County Land Use Ordinance will come before county commissioners at their meeting later today.

Stephens County Commissioners are scheduled to meet at 5:30 p.m. today in the second-floor courtroom of the historic Stephens County Courthouse in downtown Toccoa.

Commissioners will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a public hearing on the proposed land use ordinance.

The county released the proposed plan earlier this month for public review.

It sets up zoning classifications such as agricultural residential, agricultural business, agricultural intensive, single-family residential, multi-family residential, commercial general business, commercial industrial, and commercial community business.

It then lays out the rules for properties that would fall into those different categories.

This public hearing precedes an expected March 11 vote by the county commission on whether to adopt the plan.

Following today’s public hearing, county commissioners will move into a work session on their scheduled agenda items.

The business meeting to vote on agenda items will follow immediately after the conclusion of the work session.

The public hearing, work session, and business meeting are all open to the public.
