Stephens Co. Commission May Lift Burn Ban Today

Recent rains may allow a burn ban to be lifted.

Stephens County Commissioners have called a meeting for today at 4 p.m. to consider a motion to authorize a resolution rescinding the burn ban resolution that was passed back on November 16.

Today’s 4 p.m. Stephens County Commission meeting will take place in the historic Stephens County Courthouse in downtown Toccoa.

Since the burn ban, which applies to all outdoor burning, was put in place last month and passed by both the Stephens County and Toccoa City Commissioners, rains have fallen on Stephens County, helping the ongoing drought.

In a period between November 28 and December 1, downtown Toccoa received 2.7 inches of rain. Then from this past weekend through Tuesday, downtown Toccoa received an additional 2.1 inches of rain.
