Stephens County Commissioner Dean Scarborough will serve the remainder of Harold Andrews’ term on the board of the Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter.
Commissioners unanimously appointed Scarborough to fill that seat at their meeting on Tuesday.
Andrews, who served as chair of the shelter board, passed away earlier this month.
Meanwhile, Andrews’ seat on the county commission has been filled for the time being by former Stephens County Commissioner J.B. Hudgins, who attended his first meeting Tuesday.
Hudgins, who was appointed by Stephens County Probate Judge Glenda Ernest, will serve until a special election can be held to fill the remainder of Andrews’ unexpired term on the county commission.
That special election will take place in March, unless a court order is issued to change that date.
Elsewhere, county commissioners also made two appointments to the Toccoa-Stephens County Library Board at their meeting on Tuesday.
Commissioners unanimously appointed Fredda Wheeler and Michelle Austin to the board.
