Two new Stephens County Commissioners will take their seats for their first commission meetings today.
First, the commission will hold a daylong retreat at the Kimsey Environmental Center in Eastanollee. That will take place from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. today.
Then, the first regular Stephens County Commission meeting of 2013 will take place today at 5 p.m. in the second-floor courtroom of the historic Stephens County Courthouse in downtown Toccoa.
These are the first meetings for new commissioners Dennis Bell and Debbie Whitlock, who were elected to four-year terms last year.
For their regular meeting today, commissioners will begin with a work session at 5 p.m. to discuss the items on the agenda. The regular meeting, where commissioners vote on the agenda items, will follow immediately after the conclusion of the work session.
During today’s regular business meeting, the commission will select a Chairman and Vice-Chairman for the upcoming year, as well as make a number of regular appointments.
The commission is also slated to receive a report on the Fiscal Year 2012 audit from the county’s auditing firm, Mauldin and Jenkins.
In other scheduled business on the agenda, Stephens County Commissioners are expected to set the meeting schedule for the upcoming year, consider approval of the Fiscal Year 2014 budget calendar, consider a series of Fiscal Year 2013 budget amendments, and consider approval of an election hardware maintenance and support services agreement.
The meeting also provides time for public comment.
Today’s Stephens County Commission meeting and work session are both open to the public.
