Stephens Co. Commission Extends Work Detail Agreement

Stephens County Commissioners vote to extend a work detail agreement with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office temporarily while discussions will continue among the commissioners over a new long-term agreement.

On Tuesday, county commissioners voted to extend the work detail agreement with the Sheriff’s Office for 60 days.

This is the agreement that provides inmates from the county jail for duties like litter pickup in the county.

Stephens County Administrator Phyllis Ayers said that the original agreement expired June 30 and it has been extended once already for 60 days.

However, Ayers said another short term extension may be best for the time being.

“You might want to extend it another 60 (days) because Commissioner Scarborough is not here and the chairman is not here, so you may want to consider staying under the same one so they can get here and put their suggestions in,” said Ayers.

According to Ayers, both Commissioner Dean Scarborough and Chairman Dennis Bell, who were not present Tuesday, had things they wanted to discuss regarding the proposed new work detail agreement.

Commission Vice-Chair Debbie Whitlock agreed that a short term extension was best until the whole board was present.

Stephens County Commissioners approved the 60-day extension unanimously.
