Stephens Co. Commission Denies Request to Re-zone for Personal Care Home

Stephens County Commissioners reject a proposal to re-zone property to put in a personal care home in what is currently zoned a residential property.

Tuesday, the county commissioners voted unanimously to reject the proposal of Susan Lee to re-zone a N. Pinecrest Road property in Toccoa from Residential Single Family to Commercial Community Business District, following the recommendation of the Stephens County Planning Commission.

Lee was not at Tuesday’s meeting to speak to county commissioners about her proposal.

However, she told the Planning Commission last week that she wanted to live on the property and turn the more than 3,000 square foot home into a personal care facility for six women.

The county commission heard from three nearby residents who all spoke in opposition to the proposal.

Those residents cited extra traffic as a concern, as well as the fact that the area is a residential neighborhood, not a business neighborhood.
