Stephens Co. Commemorates National Day of Prayer

Stephens County marks National Day of Prayer.

The annual Day of Prayer event took place on Thursday on the lawn of the historic Stephens County Courthouse in downtown Toccoa.

Again this year, the Stephens County High School Fellowship of Christian Athletes organized the local National Day of Prayer commemoration.

Kenneth Brock with the Stephens County High School FCA encouraged those in attendance to pray often.

“Every time we drive we do not change our spare tire, unless you have bad tires,” said Brock. “You only take out your spare tire when something goes wrong. I think sometimes people can treat prayer like that. You see, we use our steering wheel every time we drive. When we live our lives our Christians, prayer is our steering wheel. It is supposed to guide our lives.”

Thursday’s Day of Prayer event in Stephens County also included prayers for the military, those in service and authority, those in need, children, churches and revival, and for the whole community.

There was also special music.

This marked the 64th annual National Day of Prayer commemoration in America.

It started in 1952 under a joint resolution of Congress signed by President Harry Truman. In 1988, President Ronald Reagan officially designated the first Thursday in May as the National Day of Prayer and each year, the President signs a proclamation inviting all Americans to take part in the National Day of Prayer.
