Stephens Co. BOE To Meet Tonight for Interviews

The Stephens County Board of Education is expected to wrap up its interviews for the board seat left vacant by Jeff Webb’s resignation at a meeting tonight.

Stephens County school board members are meeting at 5:30 p.m. in the Stephens County School System Administrative Offices on Big A School Road in Toccoa.

Tonight, the board is expected to interview the final three candidates for the District 2 seat Webb held until he resigned from the board in April.

A fourth candidate who was to interview tonight, Craig Beatty, has withdrawn his name from consideration, according to Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey.

Dorsey said Beatty informed him Wednesday that he received a new job and would no longer wish to be considered for the seat.

That leaves Choyce Watson, Dave Stancil, and Isaac White as the three candidates scheduled to interview tonight.

Last week, school board members interviewed Patricia Chism, Clint Simmons, and Bill Wheeler for the vacancy.

Dorsey said that this week’s candidates will be asked the same questions as the candidates last week were asked.

Today’s interviews are open to the public.

Stephens County Board of Education Chairman Tony Crunkleton said that the school board expects to make a decision on filling Webb’s seat at its regular business meeting on Tuesday.
