Stephens Co. BOE To Interview Board Candidates Tonight

The Stephens County Board of Education is slated to begin the process of interviewing candidates for one of the two vacancies on the board at a called meeting tonight.

That meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. and will take place at the Stephens County School System Administrative Offices on Big A School Road.

It is open to the public.

During the meeting, the school board will interview candidates that have applied to fill the District 2 seat on the Board of Education left vacant by the resignation of Jeff Webb from the board back in April.

Seven candidates in all have applied to fill the seat for the remainder of Webb’s term, which runs through the end of 2018.

They are T. Craig Beatty, Choyce Watson, Bill Wheeler, Clint Simmons, Patricia Chism, Dave Stancil, and Isaac White.

According to Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey, four of the candidates will be interviewed tonight and the other three will be interviewed at a similar meeting next week.

Dorsey said that the Board of Education has prepared a list of questions that it will ask each candidate, noting that all candidates will be asked the same questions.

Prior to the interviews, the Stephens County Board of Education will officially set its millage rate for 2016 at today’s meeting.

The school board has proposed a drop in the millage rate of 1.45 mills to 18.3 mills for this coming tax year.
