Stephens Co. BOE Tables Pinkerton Replacement Again

The Stephens County Board of Education will continue to hold off on naming a replacement to serve the remainder of the term of Dr. Elizabeth Pinkerton, who resigned from the board last month.

Tuesday, the Board of Education voted unanimously to table the issue until March.

Last month, the school board tabled the matter while it waited for an official letter from the governor accepting the resignation.

That letter has since come in.

However, Board of Education member Jim Bellamy said he feels the board should wait until after candidates have the opportunity to qualify for Pinkerton’s seat, which is set to come up for election this year.

Bellamy said the board can look at the issue again once it knows who is running for a full term.

“That way, we are letting the voters decide,” said Bellamy.

Qualifying for the seat for a full four-year term is set to take place next month prior to the Board of Education meeting.

Pinkerton resigned her seat back in January, without giving a reason she chose to step down from the Board.
