Stephens Co. BOE Re-Ups Dorsey

Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey receives a new three-year contract.

Monday morning, the Stephens County Board of Education voted unanimously to give Dorsey a new, three-year contract that took effect on Monday.

As part of the new agreement, the Board increased Dorsey’s salary from $125,000 per year to $127,500 per year.

This new contract comes just over one year into Dorsey’s previous three-year contract.

Stephens County Board of Education Chair Tony Crunkleton said that the Board evaluated Dorsey’s work and was very happy with what he had done.

“Mr. Dorsey exceeded our expectations in just all about categories,” said Crunkleton. “The entire board was just extremely pleased with the performance of Mr. Dorsey and his staff and just felt like we need to hang on to him as long as we can.”

Crunkleton went on to credit Dorsey for his efforts helping to guide the school system through its financial crisis over the last two years.

“He came around in very difficult times,” said Crunkleton. “He never abandoned us and he stuck with us through all of that. We are just glad we could show our appreciation to him in such a way.”

Dorsey said that he feels the school system has overcome a number of challenges in his time here, though adding there will be more challenges to face.

He said he appreciates the Board’s confidence in him.

“I certainly have enjoyed my time working with a great staff in Stephens County and have absolutely enjoyed being a part of the community here,” said Dorsey. “I am very fond of it and glad to be able to continue that and I am grateful to the Board, very appreciative.”

Dorsey was first hired by the Stephens County Board of Education and signed an initial three-year contract for $125,000 per year on May 1, 2014.

Then last April, the Board of Education unanimously authorized a new, three-year contract that would run through April 2018 with no change in salary.

This newest contract approved Monday by the school board will carry Dorsey through July 24, 2019.
