The Stephens County Board of Education is expected to vote on the school system’s charter system application to the state at its meeting today.
Today’s Board of Education meeting is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. at the School System Administrative Offices on Mize Road.
If the board approves the application, it would then go off to the state’s Department of Education for its consideration.
The school system announced back in January that it would pursue charter system status with the state.
According to Stephens County School Superintendent Sherrie Whiten, in a charter school system, a local Board of Education reaches a contract with the state Board of Education about the operation of the school system.
