Stephens Co. BOE Looks At Facility Use Fee Schedule

A Stephens County Board of Education member has asked staff to re-visit the fee schedule for renting the Tugaloo Performing Arts Center at Stephens County High School.

Tuesday, school system staff presented proposed modifications to the facility use fee schedule for the school system.

School officials said the major adjustments were to convert all existing fees to an hourly schedule instead of basing it off a day or half of a day, as well as adding fees for renting space at the elementary schools.

Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey said there were no major changes made.

“This is just really taking what you have had in practice and cleaning it up,” said Dorsey.

Board of Education member Sandra Childs said that she wants staff to take another look at the fees for the Tugaloo Center at the high school.

“The complaints are that it is so expensive that the general public, if they were okayed to use it, cannot afford to use it,” said Childs.

Also, Board member Steve Tilley recommended looking at different fee schedules for non-profit groups as opposed to for-profit groups.

Dorsey said that the school system will certainly look at those matters and if the Board of Education wishes to look at those or other policy changes regarding the fee schedule, that is something staff will work on.
