Stephens Co. BOE Holds Regular Meeting

The Stephens County Board of Education will put off looking at any changes in the school system’s cell phone distribution plan until it works on the Fiscal Year 2017 budget next year.

At Tuesday’s Stephens County Board of Education meeting, Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey suggested tabling that discussion for the time being.

At the school board’s work session on Thursday, Dorsey had told the school board that the system might be able to save money by cleaning up the list of employees that carry a school system cell phone and also by examining how the school system goes about providing those phones.

However, Dorsey now said that after looking at it further since Thursday, making any changes right now does not make sense.

“We have had a lot of questions about cell phones and it turns out that there are probably not near as many people who are being paid by the school system to use them that we would expect to have them,” said Dorsey. “Right now, it is beneficial to keep it like it is.”

Also on Tuesday, the school board approved a series of fund raisers and field trip requests, as well as the School Board Training Plan for 2016.
