Stephens Co. BOE Gets Facility Update

Stephens County school system staff is still working to put together bids on a couple of purchases involving Stephens County High School.

At a work session on Thursday, the Board of Education received a facility update on the high school.

Last month, the school board approved for staff to obtain bids on the installation of steps from the parking lot into the Currahee Arena at the high school, as well as get bids for an aerial lift to be able to change light bulbs and do other maintenance in certain parts of the high school.

Stephens County School System Director of Operations Tim Wilbanks said that they are continuing to work on getting both of those items ready to move forward on.

“We did have the pre-bid meeting for the aerial lift on the 10th,” said Wilbanks. “We had two vendors show up for that. We are still working on getting pricing back for the stairway into the gym. We got a couple of bids back on the concrete portion. No bids back on the railing portion as of yet.”

Wilbanks went on to say that crews have been out at the high school working on a number of different issues over the past several weeks.

“The electrical engineer signed off on the electrical repairs that have been made to the HVAC,” said Wilbanks. “That happened on September 28th. We had a crew in there for the fire system deficiencies that we mentioned last meeting.”

That crew was in there on September 17th, he said.

“They determined that some of the devices were inappropriately labeled,” said Wilbanks. “It did not affect the functionality.”

He said they were going to correct it.

He says more work is scheduled for the coming week in some areas.
