The Stephens County Board of Education is expected to name its new board member at a meeting tonight.
Board members are expected to choose from three candidates during their regularly scheduled meeting at 5:30 p.m. at the Stephens County School System Administrative Offices on Mize Road in Toccoa.
Last Thursday, the school board interviewed the three candidates for the seat vacated last month by Jerry Steele.
Board of Education members interviewed Inger Neal, Steve Tilley, and Jimmy Howard one at a time, asking them identical questions during their interviews.
A fourth candidate, Rodney Moore, had removed his name from consideration prior to the school board conducting the interviews.
Whomever the board selects will serve the remainder of Jerry Steele’s unexpired term, which runs through the end of 2014.
Steele resigned his seat on the Board of Education representing District 1, Post 2 effective June 30 as his son took over as principal at Stephens County High School on July 1.
Also during today’s meeting, the Board of Education is expected to officially set its millage rate for 2013.
The Board of Education has proposed leaving the school system millage rate unchanged for Stephens County property owners this year at 18.4.
