Stephens BOE, TCC Both Holding Meetings Today

The Stephens County Board of Education is expected to formally set its millage rate at 20 mills for a second straight year at a meeting this morning.

Stephens County school board members are set to gather at 7:30 a.m. at the Stephens County school system’s administrative offices on Mize Road to set the millage rate.

Last month, the school board voted to set the tentative millage rate for this year at 20 mills, pending today’s meeting.

Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey said that the 20 mill tax rate will result in a small decline in school taxes levied this year.

Dorsey said that the Stephens County school system will levy $11,766,399 in school taxes this year if the millage rate stays at 20 mills.

He said that represents a decrease of $128,446 from the amount of school taxes levied last year.

According to Dorsey, that is due to a drop in the county’s tax digest.

Meanwhile, Toccoa City Commissioners are also scheduled to meet later today.

The Toccoa City Commission is set to meet at 5 p.m. today at Toccoa City Hall for a regularly scheduled meeting.

Both this morning’s school board meeting and today’s Toccoa City Commission meeting are open to the public.
