October 30, 2013

Stephens County School Superintendent Sherrie Whiten confirms that the School Resource Officer at StephensCountyHigh School had to use pepper spray on students during an incident recently.

Whiten said the incident took place last week.

“It was used as a last resort,” said Whiten.  “Our school resource officer and our administrators go out of their way to handle any types of issues with students in a very calm, peaceful way, but it was used.”

Whiten went on to say that to her knowledge, none of the students involved suffered any long-term ill effects of the pepper spray.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said that two juveniles were arrested in connection with the incident where pepper spray was used.
