Special Olympics in Stephens Co. Holds Bowling Tourney

Stephens County Special Olympics holds its annual bowling event.

A host of athletes gathered on Friday at the Rose Lanes Bowling Center in Toccoa for the annual tournament.

According to Stephens County Special Olympics Local Coordinator Kevin Phillips, they had a good turnout for Friday’s event.

“We have had about 85 athletes and our Masters, which brought it up to about 100 athletes participating in our bowling tournament today,” said Phillips.

Phillips went on to say that this is something that Special Olympics enjoys putting on each year to provide another opportunity for local athletes to participate in competition.

“We do it yearly,” said Phillips. “We make this so every child has a chance to participate in something.”

Phillips also said that it takes a tremendous amount of community support to put this event on each year.

“We have quite a few organizations from the schools to let students be volunteers and several businesses help us out financially to be able to put this on,” said Phillips.

Phillips said he appreciates that community support, noting it is vital to the success of Special Olympics.
