Smooth Transition/Slow Traffic for First Day of School

Though first day traffic slowed things down, overall the first day of school under the new elementary and middle school restructuring of grades pre-k through 5 was a smooth transition.

Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey said everything went as planned.”We had what I would call a traditional first day of school. We had very heavy traffic early and had a fairly smooth start. Traffic was congested and we appreciate the patience from our parents and the staff that helped. We appreciate law enforcement. The Sheriff’s Department and Toccoa Police Department was assisting us. So we had a lot of help and appreciate everyone’s patience.”

Dorsey said that he had a chance to visit the schools and observed smiling faces from the teachers and students.”Walking around all of the schools it seemed we had happy children and happy staff and looks like we are off to a great 2015-2016 school year.”

With the first day complete students and staff move in to their first full week starting today.
