Smart Phones Stolen From Local Store

The Toccoa Police Department is investigating the theft of numerous cell phones from a Toccoa store.

Toccoa Police Chief Tim Jarrell said it happened back on April 16 at about 12:30 a.m. at the AT&T store on Skyview Lane.

Jarrell said police responded to an alarm that was going off and when they got there, found that a burglary had taken place.

“When the key holder arrived, an inventory was taken of the business and (they) discovered approximately 30 iPhone 6 and 6p’s had been taken, an estimated value of $26,000,” said Jarrell.

Jarrell went on to say that police were able to obtain a copy of the video from the incident from cameras located in the store.

“On video, we have two male suspects using what appears to be a pry bar of some type,” said Jarrell. “They are able to gain access through the front door, use a sledge hammer on the interior door, and exit through the back door.”

According to Jarrell, all that can be seen in the video is that the suspects are wearing black ski masks and black hoodies.

The police department has pulled screen shots from that video of the suspects and posted them to the department’s Facebook page.

Also, Jarrell said they are looking to see if similar crimes have taken place anywhere else.

In the meantime, Jarrell said that anyone who has purchased a phone like the ones stolen from a private individual should contact police just to ensure that the phone is not among those that were stolen.

“We are asking for anyone from the 16th forward who purchases an iPhone 6 or 6p from an individual that appears to be in new or like new condition, if they want to give us a call or stop by the police department, we will be happy to check the serial number,” said Jarrell.

Anyone with questions about that or information on the case can contact the Toccoa Police Department at 706-282-3244.
