Small Part of GA 17 Goes Four Lanes

The first part of the four-lane Highway 17 between Toccoa and the Franklin County line goes four lanes, at least for a time.

A small stretch of the highway around the Toccoa By-pass intersection was open to four lanes of traffic, two in each direction, on Wednesday.

Also, a traffic light is up at the intersection where the By-pass comes into the new road.

There is still a great deal of construction and paving work going on along the entire Highway 17 project, with the DOT having said earlier this year that the entire project would be completed in the late Summer or early Fall.

When it is complete, Georgia Highway 17 will be a four-lane highway all the way between Memorial Drive in Toccoa and the Franklin County-Stephens County line.

Drivers should use caution along 17 due to traffic pattern shifts as the work continues.
