Sims, Jr. Sentencing Delayed

A sentencing hearing for a Toccoa man convicted of felony murder last week is on hold.

Officials report that sentencing for Steve A. Sims, Jr. of Toccoa has been pushed back from this morning until October 15.

Sims, Jr. was convicted of felony murder, voluntary manslaughter, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony Friday afternoon following a week-long trial in Mountain Judicial Circuit Superior Court in Toccoa.

Sims. Jr. killed Shawn Hancock of Toccoa in March in the midst of an altercation the two men had at Sims, Jr.’s South Sage Street home.

A jury did find Sims, Jr. not guilty of malice murder and aggravated assault in connection to the case.

The October 15 sentencing hearing for Sims, Jr. will take place in Mountain Judicial Circuit Superior Court in Toccoa.
