Shirley Releases Additional Info on Sunday Chase

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley releases additional information on the chase overnight Sunday and early Monday that involved authorities from both Stephens and Franklin counties.

Shirley said it started when a deputy on routine patrol on Rock Creek Road noticed a vehicle approaching that had just one headlight.

“He turned around on the vehicle,” said Shirley. “The vehicle pulled into Rock Creek Baptist Church parking lot and immediately came out of the parking lot in a reckless manner toward the deputy.”

At that point, the chase began through Stephens County and eventually towards Avalon and Martin, said Shirley.

Shirley said that the dirt road was unfamiliar to the deputy and Franklin County authorities arrived in the area to assist.

That is when the vehicle was spotted again and the chase picked back up in the Martin area of Franklin and Stephens counties.

The chase ended when the car lost control and authorities were able to put it into a ditch.

Arrested was 42-year-old Alton Lee Davidson of Habersham County.

Shirley said that Stephens County charged Davidson with Felony Fleeing, DUI, Reckless Driving, Driving with a Suspended License, Affixing a Tag to Conceal the Identity of a Vehicle, Expired Registration, and Operating a Vehicle without Headlights.

Davidson also faces charges from Franklin County.

Meanwhile, Shirley said that Davidson was someone that was wanted on many different charges in Habersham County.

“He was one of Habersham County’s most wanted persons,” said Shirley. “He has 21 charges on him, the most serious being counts of aggravated assault and aggravated battery.”

Shirley said that Toccoa Police also has an unrelated charge pending against Davidson as well from another incident.
