Shelter Offering Discounted Spay/Neuter Program

The Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter is currently running a special low-cost spay/neuter program for dogs and cats.

Shelter Director Jeff Roberts said that Stephens County residents that are not able to afford the regular cost to get their dogs or cats spayed or neutered now can get this done for only $20.

Roberts said the shelter has received grants to cover the cost above $20.

He said nearly 2,000 unwanted animals come into the shelter each year and the only way to reduce these numbers is to reduce the number of unwanted dogs and cats born each year.

According to Roberts, the shelter currently has funding to provide 200 discounted surgeries and is seeking additional grants to reach their target of spaying or neutering 500 animals in 2017.
