Second Day of Qualifying Complete

Day Two of qualifying for local and state races brings more candidates into the races.

At the county level, Chris Stephens qualified for re-election to his post as Coroner and Jim Ledford qualified for re-election to his seat on the Stephens County Board of Education.

Both Stephens and Ledford qualified as Republicans.

Moving to the state level, incumbent John Wilkinson will have competition for his 50th District State Senate seat.

Roy Benifield of the Martin area qualified Tuesday as a Republican to challenge Wilkinson in the May primary.

Also qualifying at the state level on Tuesday was Chan Caudell, who qualified for re-election to his post as Mountain Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge.

Qualifying for both local and state elections continues today and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to noon.

Candidates qualifying for county races qualify at the Stephens County Registrar’s Office at the Stephens County Courthouse Annex on Tugalo Street in downtown Toccoa.

Meanwhile, qualifying for state and federal races takes place at the Secretary of State’s Office down in Atlanta.
